When we talk about favorite flowers, peonies are on top of the list for many people. These flowers are big and fluffy, making them really stand out. What's more, they come in a big range of colors, but pink is the most popular - it's like a fluffy pink dream. However, it's not just their looks; peonies smell amazing too! They're not around all year, so when peonies start showing up, you know it's spring or early summer. This makes them extra special and something people really look forward to seeing.
The Origin of the Peony flower
Peonies are popular flowers that originally come from places like China and Japan, but you can find them in Europe and North America too. They're often called the "king of flowers" because they symbolize good things like luck, honor, and wealth. People have loved peonies for thousands of years, not only because they're beautiful but also because their roots have been used in traditional medicine to help people feel better. There's even an old story from Greece about a man named Paeon who used a peony to heal someone, and that's how the flower got its name. In China, there are big festivals just for peonies, and in Japan, there are lots of gardens filled with them.
What's cool is how peonies became a big deal in flower arrangements. Long ago, people noticed how stunning these flowers looked and started using them for important events like weddings to bring good vibes and protection. Because of their big, fluffy blooms and the fact they come in so many colors, florists fell in love with peonies. They realized these flowers could make any bouquet look full of life. Now, whether it's a small gathering or a big celebration, peonies are a top choice for adding a touch of elegance and meaning to flower designs. People all over the world like to grow peonies in their bouquets and use them in special moments to make everything look and feel more special. Isn’t that a wonderful backstory?

Top 5 Most Fragrant Peonies
People usually first look at flowers and then quickly smell them. Most times, they smell great, but sometimes the smell can be surprising. We will talk about different types of peony flowers based on how they smell, helping you pick the perfect one when you want both beauty and a great fragrance.
Highly Fragrant Peonies
These peonies smell strong and good, and just a few of them can make a whole room smell nice. Their scent is sweet and strong, kind of like fancy perfume. Smelling these peonies can make you remember special times, like visiting your grandma or a wedding long ago.
Duchesse de Nemours – a white and creamy peony with a lot of petals!
Seashell – a single pink peony with a yellow heart
Dr. Alexander Fleming – a bright darker shade of pink
Festiva Maxima – a pure white peony with pink stripes
Pecher – a soft pink pastel shade
Lighter & Lovely scented Peonies
These peonies have a soft smell that's just right – not too strong, but enough to make you stop and breathe it in. They're a bit sweet, a little earthy, or just a touch spicy, perfect for people who don't like strong scents. Even though they have a lighter scent, they can still bring back strong memories. There are many kinds of these peonies, in lots of colors and shapes, that smell nice without being too overpowering.
Red Charm – a beautiful red peony
Sarah Bernhardt – a fluffy pink peony
Bowl of Cream – a creamy peony
Karl Rosenfield – a bright pink, almost red peony with a yellow heart
Immaculee – this one is very special; it has large outside petals and pointy inner petals. The color is white/ivory, and it has a pink center.
We have discussed beautiful varieties of peonies, but it is also very important to prep them well. First, when your peonies arrive, they crave a bit of water and a powernap, so let them rest for a moment.
After that, grab your Sakagen Scissors ;) and cut the stems at a sharp angle. This helps the peonies drink water more easily. Remove the leaves that would be underwater, as they can make the water dirty and lead to bacterial growth. After their cutting session, you need to give them a gentle wash. That sticky layer on their heads needs to go down the drain, if you remove it, your peonies will pop open faster! Find a nice clean vase, fill it with water & flower food, and every few days you need to give them fresh water and re-cut the stems. Make sure they are in a cool spot.
